Meera Chopra

Meera Chopra makes her big Bollywood debut in Satish Kaushik‘s Gang Of Ghosts alongside Mahie Gill, Anupam Kher, Sharman Joshi and Jackie Shroff.

But who exactly is she? Talk within the industry has it that Meera is cousin to Priyanka Chopra and Parineeti Chopra. But in an interview with Hindustan Times in August 2013, Parineeti was quoted saying, “Meera is not my cousin. She is a cousin’s cousin’s cousin. We don’t even meet and talk. So she is not really my family.”

On the other hand, Priyanka has never officially denied being related to Meera, neither has she been up front about helping or promoting the newbie actress.

In fact, our blog archives tell us Meera was supposed to make her debut with Vikram Bhatt’s third installment of 1920. She had initially refused to do this film because of clashing dates. However, since that got delayed, she finally signed up for Gangs Of Ghosts.

Few may know that Meera began her career by acting in South films and has done numerous Tamil and Telugu flicks. She debuted in 2007 in Anbe Aaruyire, a Tamil film, which went on to be a super-hit.

She acted under the name of Nila for some of her South films.

But unlike her more illustrious cousins, Meera has a murky and sordid past. Media reports have it that she was under the police scanner for being involved in the suspicious death of a lady in Gurgaon in 2011, called Ruchi Bhuttan.

According to news reports, Meera was having an affair with Ruchi’s husband, Sumit Bhuttan. Sumit wanted a divorce from Ruchi to marry Meera who is also alleged to have been his lover before he got married to Ruchi.

After allegedly having a fight over dowry demands, Ruchi apparently hung herself from the ceiling fan. However, the police investigating the case found many things which did not add up and after arresting Sumit, held Meera for extensive questioning.

Sumit was found to be not guilty in 2013 by the Court and was freed of all charges framed against him.

As for Meera, she will soon be seen on the silver screen in Gangs Of Ghosts and may well have put the ghosts of her past behind her!

The promotions for Queen have been different from the regular fare and Kangana seems quite excited for the film, in which she plays the title role.

Sunny Leone literally freed herself from a bird cage while promoting her upcoming film, Ragini MMS 2. The trailers for the film have been quite explicit and Sunny was hoping to appear more scary than sexy. We wonder if this appearance of hers did the trick.

Gunday releases this Friday, so the whole cast has been out on promotions for a while now. And I’m hearing that Priyanka Chopra had quite an interesting time working with Ranveer Singh! Everyone knows that he’s an infectious ball of energy, and that proved to be something of a task for PC to handle. Especially in the last few days of promotions, I’m told that Priyanka was exasperated with Ranveer when he kept jumping in on conversations and just, you know, being typical Ranveer.

It looks like Sunny Leone really doesn’t want her career as an adult film actress to interfere or mix with her current career in Bollywood. I already told you that she had some issues when the promo of Ragini MMS 2 pegged the film as sexy more than scary, and now it looks like she has even given strict instructions to her PR people. Sunny has asked them not to encourage any questions about her past profession, and focus only on queries regarding her future in Bollywood.

In all her meet and greets with the press, Sunny has decided only to talk about her film career and avoid all questions related to her career as an adult star. From the looks of it, she is not too happy with the constant speculation and discussion about her prior profession, and wants to make sure that all the focus is now on her Bollywood film career.

In fact, I have heard that after watching the edit, Karan Johar even texted Anushka to say that there might be a lot of talk about the episode. But I did have a funny experience when I was in the girl band, Viva. One of my band mate’s boyfriends sent her a huge teddy bear that was taller than me (and I’m really tall). It took up so much space that I actually felt like I was living with two people in the same room. It was a bit strange!”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been wanting to make Bajirao Mastani for as long as I can remember. Initially, he had wanted to cast his favourite Salman Khan with Aishwarya Rai. When they fell out, he had hoped to make the film with Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. But the two actors went ahead and did another film, much to the grouse of SLB who was looking for a fresh pairing. Rumour has it, after the success of Ram-Leela, Sanjay wants to revive his dream project and cast Ajay Devgn and Deepika Padukone as Bajirao and Mastani. If Ajay doesn’t work out, he might repeat the hot pairing of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. Well, we’re excited nevertheless. What about you?

Gunday released yesterday and the lead actors, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor were spotted at Chandan cinema gauging the audience reactions. As always, the two were in high spirits, not shying away from posing for the camera. What I found even more amusing was that the driver and security were dressed in the heart splattered shirt the boys wear in the film.

It was a rather busy day for Farhan Akhtar, who unveiled the Filmfare Awards’ special issue with Deepika Padukone earlier in the day and then headed to promote his upcoming film, Shaadi Ke Side Effects with Vidya Balan. For this particular promotion, Farhan and Vidya had to take a hot air balloon ride. It’s not easy being an actor, folks.

1. Who is finally going to be in Shuddhi?

An announcement is supposed to be made soon, as the release date has already been locked: 25th December, 2015. It’s yet to be seen whether this will actually happen, but Karan Johar has been very keen on casting Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles for this film, ever since Hrithik Roshan had to opt out. This film is a romantic drama about reincarnation, and since KJo was very impressed with Ranveer and Deepika’s chemistry in Ram-Leela, he wants to recreate that for this film.

2. Is Aditya Chopra really going to direct Ranveer Singh?

No, there isn’t any truth to that rumour. Still, Adi is quite fond of Ranveer and often gives him advice on the films he chooses.

3. Who is going to host the next season of Bigg Boss?

Ranbir Kapoor is one of the names that has been finalised, but the channel has not taken any decision yet. In fact, there are chances that Salman Khan will be back – he is currently in talks with the production house to increase his remuneration significantly (5 crores more than the previous season, I hear). The Bigg Boss team is still considering their options, and talks are on with both. Time will tell who gets signed on as the host for the next season.

Not too long ago, Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor‘s first commercial together was released online. They’ve even done a photoshoot for the brand, and those who have seen the pictures can’t stop raving about how good the two look together. In fact, Duggu even asked Sonam how come they haven’t done any film together yet, given the fact that they look so good in the shots that they took. In return, Sonam was heard joking and saying that he should consider her for the next movie in the Krrish franchise. :)
