Anushka Sharma

For two episodes on this season of Koffee With Karan, Anushka Sharma‘s name has been brought in as part of the conversation, and it seems that the actress is not pleased about this at all! During Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh‘s episode, there was a small bit about how the two young actors sorted out the issues between them when rumours had arisen about Arjun seeing Anushka. Later on, during Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra‘s episode, Karan had commented that Deepika is living in a bubble if she thinks that she’s Anushka’s friend (thus insinuating that Anushka perhaps still has a problem with Deepika).

The way Karan handled the question of Deepika and Anushka being friends showed that the reports of them having sorted out their problems (Ranveer Singh related, supposedly) may not be true. While Deepika claimed that she is friendly with Anushka, Karan told her, “You’ve been friendly with Anushka? Sorry, I nearly choked.” Which prompted Deepika to say that she is, at least in her head, unless she’s been living in a bubble. Of course, Karan responded to that in his usual blunt manner: “I think you are. If you think you’re Anushka Sharma’s friend, then you’re definitely living in a bubble.”

We’re told by a source that Anushka was unhappy when she saw the episode promo featuring this tidbit, especially since she was already brought into conversation in a previous episode. We aren’t sure whether she let her displeasure known to Karan, but we don’t think she has much to complain about either way – at least she’s not Katrina Kaif, who has been a topic of conversation for practically every episode. They may as well rename it Koffee With Katrina!

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh

After celebrating both New Year’s (with her family) and her birthday out of the country, Deepika Padukone returned to Mumbai late last night along with boyfriend Ranveer Singh. The two are returning from New York (where they were spotted by a bunch of fans) after a brief vacation together. They chose to exit the airport separately, perhaps to avoid being clicked by the paparazzi, although Ranveer sure did give them something to talk about when he came out. Here’s what he stopped to do:

Ah Ranveer, always good for a laugh, aren’t you? :) He is jumping right back into work almost immediately, too – this afternoon, he will be attending a press conference for Gunday along with Priyanka Chopra and Arjun Kapoor, where they are expected to launch a new song from the film. You can bet he’s going to be asked about this holiday with Deepika, so keep an eye out for those quotes!

Interestingly, they both wore all-black at the airport, although Deepika added some colour in the form of that fantastic lipstick. I seriously want to raid her lipstick collection, because she wears a lot of gorgeous, bold colours. I think she’s wearing MAC’s Lady Danger in this one (it’s pigmented and matte enough to be MAC, and there’s an orange tinge in there so I don’t believe it’s Ruby Woo). If anyone knows for sure, please tell us in the comments below!

Ranveer Singh

Ranveer, on the other hand, stood out with his Harry Potter-esque glasses and a beanie. Love the glasses! He always wears these silly, sometimes-geeky things (remember that ‘Geek‘ tshirt?) and he pulls them off so well.

In fact, 2014 is a good year for Bipasha because she will be seen in five films. First up is Vikram Bhatt‘s horror flick Creature 3D which is slated to release in May. A month later in June, we’ll see Bips in Sajid Nadiadwala‘s Humshakals. And for those who love to see Bipasha move her svelte body, she’ll be seen performing an item number in Most Welcome 2, a Bangladeshi film.

Bang Bang will see Bipasha play a key supporting role while there are rumours that she will also play a lead role in No Entry Mein Entry, a sequel to the 2005 comedy, No Entry.

Alia Bhatt in Highway

Ever since it was announced that A R Rahman would be doing the music for Highway, I’ve been waiting to listen to the film’s soundtrack! Rockstar is still one of my favourite albums of all time, and with Highway, that same winning combination – Rahman (composer), Irshad Kamil (lyricist) and Imtiaz Ali (director) - comes back for another round. The first song from the film, Patakha Guddi, has just been released, so give it a listen and let us know what you think. It’s the same song you can hear bits of in the trailer, and we’ve liked it since then, so it’s nice to finally hear a longer version.

Imtiaz Ali says:

Patakha Guddi is about freedom. It is also about purity and wildness. Who better than the wild children of Punjabi music – Sultana and Jyoti Nooran – to sing the track? After Rockstar, it was great to collaborate with Rahman Sir again and we have tried to keep the Highway album melodious, simple and heartfelt.

The music definitely has that distinguishable Rahman touch to it, but the stunning voices of the Nooran sisters (Jyoti and Sultana) really make this song. I feel like this is one of those tracks that you have to listen to a few times before you really fall in love with it, but there’s something very calming about it – the Sufi feeling, perhaps, similar to Rockstar‘s Kun Faya Kun.

Irshad Kamil says:

Patakha Guddi gives the fragrance of Punjab with its piousness and free spirit. The lyrics take the flight according to the growth of Veera’s (Alia) character in the film. The song has raw energy in its composition, singing and even in the choice of words.

You can see that piousness in the lyrics Irshad has penned:

“Malik ne chinta di jo dur karega wohi,
Naam Ali ka leke tu toh naach le galli galli.”

(“What troubles God gave, he will get rid of those too,

Song aside, the video is great too. The visuals are stunning, and I’m pretty sure this is going to be Alia’s film. She looked really good in the trailer and even more so in this video. There’s a certain vulnerability around her, especially since her look is completely de-glam. Really looking forward to her in this one. (Psst – observation: In the first still, her character is wearing an engagement ring. Does that mean, when abducted in the film, she’s engaged to someone else?)

So here’s another fallout of the Sussanne & Hrithik Roshan separation. It appears Hrithik Roshan and Arjun Rampal‘s dosti is suffering a major setback. Ever since the news of Sussanne leaving Duggu because of her closeness to Arjun has hit the industry, things have gone downhill between the two former friends.

The buzz is that his camp has been putting pressure on the agency to drop Arjun from their client list and work exclusively with him. Bollywood’s current blue-eyed boy, Ranbir Kapoor, just bagged himself another endorsement deal! He will now be seen promoting everyone’s favourite potato chips brand, Lay’s, as part of a special campaign that focuses on friendship. The brand just released a new teaser from this campaign, featuring Ranbir (as Sid), Saqib Saleem (as Raghav), Varun Mitra (as Veer), Saba Azad (as Sushi), and Pooja Hegde (as Kaira). Check out the video and let us know what you think of it!

Each member of this gang has a distinct personality, and together they make for a group that youngsters would want to be part of. Sid leads the group with his loveable, rascal-like qualities. Kaira is the sexy and stylish diva of the group, who may just end up becoming Sid’s love interest in the future. Veer, meanwhile, is the macho stud who believes that nothing (not even girls) can compare with the high that sports can give you. Sushi is the tomboy of the group. Harman Baweja and Bipasha Basu

Back in July, we told you that Bipasha Basu has become very serious about boyfriend Harman Baweja, and has even been heard telling her friends that he’s “the one.” At that time, a friend of hers had even commented saying that he wouldn’t be surprised if she decided to tie the knot with Harman. If recent reports are anything to go by, then the friend’s prediction may indeed come true. Word has it that Bipasha and Harman really are planning on getting hitched soon!

Mirror reported this morning that Bipasha and Harman are planning on getting married this year, but that step was taken before John Abraham announced that he is married on Twitter. However, the two will only make this news official after Harman’s Dishkiyaon (produced by Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra) is out in theatres. Apparently, there has even been a meeting between the two sets of parents – after which, they have spent time together on a numerous other occasions as well.

Although Bipasha and Harman have attended events together in the past, the first time they actually stopped to pose for the media as a couple was during Raj Kundra’s success party at Royalty, for his book How Not to Make Money. They were later spotted exiting a restaurant after having dinner together, although at that time Bipasha had pulled up the screen of her car in an attempt not to be photographed further.

We’ll have to wait and see whether rumours of their marriage are indeed true, since, in a recent interview, Bipasha still claimed that she “doesn’t want to rush into it” although she does plan on getting married one day. She also didn’t admit to being in love with Harman, saying it’s “too premature to make a big statement” and she “can’t categorise” what he is to her. We guess time will tell which direction their relationship will take!

Sussanne Roshan

Yesterday evening, Sussanne Roshan was spotted at the Mumbai airport returning from an international trip. Interestingly enough, she was picked up by Ashok Vasodia, who is Hrithik Roshan‘s secretary/manager. The couple officially confirmed their separation late last year (first Hrithik made an official announcement and then Sussanne released a statement later as well), but it looks like they may still be sharing some of the same staff. Manyata Dutt

Manyata Dutt has been unwell for a while now, which is the reason why Sanjay Dutt was released on parole for one month on December 21st. At that time, Manyata’s doctor had confirmed that she’s suffering from two health issues – cardiovascular disease and a tumorous growth in her body (on her liver, to be precise) that is cause for concern, although she did not undergo surgery. Now it has been learned that, unfortunately, Manyata was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday (January 7th) morning, as she had collapsed while at home.

Doctors, however, would not comment on whether the cause of her collapse was the tumour on her liver, as Manyata had asked them to refrain from commenting on her health. All they would say is that she is “quite unwell” and even indicated that she may not be discharged anytime soon. According to TOI, though, it wasn’t because of the tumour on her liver. She was apparently running a high temperature for around two weeks, and wasn’t feeling better even after taking antibiotics. Reports suggest that her left lung was filled with fluid, and that’s what lead to her collapsing. On Tuesday night, Manyata had to undergo a two hour long procedure to remove water from her lungs.

Another report says that a few years ago, Manyata had visited doctors to treat breathlessness and irregular heartbeat. Although she has been taking medication, reports suggest that in the past few months, her breathlessness had increased – leading to the doctors carrying out further tests.

Sanjay Dutt is said to have been at his wife’s side ever since she was admitted to the hospital. He can be out on parole until the 21st of January, completing his one month. However, if Manyata’s condition does not improve by then, he can apply for an extension.

Here’s hoping that Manyata recovers soon!

Salman Khan

It’s not something I would have thought would happen, but this is what the papers said this morning! Apparently, Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan - who have not been the best of friends in the past – have gotten buddy-buddy recently. Understandably, Hrithik has been going through a bit of a rough patch personally since he recently separated with his wife, Sussanne Roshan. If the rumours are to be believed, he turned to Salman for a little comfort, and perhaps even some advice!

A few days ago, the reports had begun doing the rounds that on New Year’s Eve, Hrithik spent some time at Salman’s Panvel farmhouse. On that day, Salman was having a small get-together for his close friends and family, and from the sounds of it, Salman wasn’t entirely expecting Hrithik. The actor arrived during the late evening, and left by 8:30pm, so he was out before their party fully took off. (Hrithik later headed to Goldie Behl and Sonali Bendre‘s house for their bash, and brought in the New Year with them.)

This morning, Mirror reported that Hrithik visited Salman yet again, but this time he stayed for much longer – the entire night, practically. He entered looking very dejected, and spent the time he was there (around ten hours) discussing his separation from Sussanne.

We wonder if Aamir Khan has anything to do with the visits Hrithik paid. He revealed on his episode of Koffee With Karan that when he split up with his then-wife Reena Dutta, Salman was a great source of comfort (and, in fact, that’s when their friendship really grew). As per media reports, Aamir and Hrithik have also grown a lot closer as of late, so it’s possible that Aamir told Hrithik that he should speak to Salman in case he needed someone to talk to.

Salman and Hrithik apparently had some issues during Guzaarish - Salman had said that even flies and dogs didn’t go to watch the film, while Hrithik retaliated by saying he should be more loving and gracious. However, everything has been fine for a while now, and Hrithik had even commented saying Salman has “contributed” to his life in many ways.

Salman Khan in Jai Ho

Jai Ho itself had a title change (it was earlier called Mental) and it turns out that one of its songs had to undergo something similar. Have you heard Photocopy from the film? That, actually, wasn’t the original title of the song. Initially, the song used the brand name “Xerox” in their lyrics, mostly because people refer to a photocopy as a “xerox” any way. However, the decision to change the title – and lyrics – of the song was made fairly last minute. The initial version of the song included Xerox, but was later changed when the makers realised that they would have to go through some trouble to get the necessary permissions to do so.

In fact, the team did approach the necessary people so that they could get this done. However, in order to get the permission, they had to go through a lengthy process and complete a number of formalities. We are told that the makers really wanted to use Xerox, but decided that they didn’t want to go through the long process, and therefore dropped the idea. They then opted to use the word ‘photocopy’ instead.

Sohail Khan confirmed the news, saying, “Earlier, the word Xerox was decided to be used in the song, but getting permission to use the brand name would have been very time consuming. So we stuck to ‘photocopy’ and I’m glad the song has got a very good response from the audiences.”

Not sure why they couldn’t get the required permissions this time around, because for two Salman Khan movies in the past - Dabangg and its sequel, Dabangg 2 - they have used the brands Zandu Balm and Fevicol respectively. And anyway, which brand wouldn’t want to be unofficially “endorsed” by Salman Khan?

Psst! Have you heard? As part of promotions for the film, Salman will be gifting his firoza bracelet to a number of fans across the country. The actor begun wearing one after he had seen his father wearing it and liked it. Apparently, the bracelet has been used as a plot element in Jai Ho, because the makers think it’s a “strong part of Salman’s identity.” So to promote that, he will be distributing a number of them to fans in several cities. Ooooh look who’s being all romantic! Harman Baweja is planning to whisk away his girlfriend Bipasha Basu on a Roman holiday. Someone who attended her birthday bash was telling me how Harman is absolutely madly in love with Bips and pampers her to no end! He knows that Italy is one of her favourite destinations and is planning to take her to Rome some time mid 2014 on a holiday.

Ok, so maybe that’s just a funny technicality :)

Elli Avram has been referred to as a “Katrina Kaif lookalike” (we all know how Salman Khan loves those) before, but the actress doesn’t take too kindly to being compared to one other girl from the Bollywood industry. Although she has Bigg Boss and that whole “sex symbol” vibe in common with Sunny Leone, Elli’s actions at an event recently confirmed that she will lose it if compared to the pornstar turned actress. Here’s what went down!

A source tells us that Elli was in for a rude shock when a group of people referred to her as “Sunny Leone” recently. Elli was rehearsing for her performance in Saifai (where she travelled with Salman Khan), and in the middle of her dance performance, a group of guys came up to her and mistakenly called her Sunny Leone. The actress was extremely ticked off, and was apparently shocked that they weren’t able to identify her for who she is. Uh, perhaps they didn’t know her because her posters are banned from hostel walls? *lol*

In any case, the Mickey Virus actress was in no mood to pose with the “fans” after they mistook her identity, and even asked the security guards to get the bunch of them off the stage.

Well, we don’t expect that she will be hidden from the limelight for too long now, especially since Salman has taken it upon himself to give her a film. We already told you that he’s wrapped up with other projects for a while, but the superstar confirmed recently that, “We have Elli in mind for sure… I will say that straight out.” But it’s not just a friendship thing, according to him. He also said that, “It’s very clear that if I see something in a person only then that person will get to work with me. If I feel that a person deserves it, only then it will happen or else nothing doing. If somebody makes my head turn twice that means the girl has something about her.”

Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt

Parineeti Chopra is feeling competitive these days. Even though Alia Bhatt is her junior, Pari was heard talking about how Highway is getting tremendous buzz and Alia’s role is getting rave reviews from those who have seen it. A source reveals that the reason for her insecurity is that Parineeti is a huge Imitiaz Ali fan and was actually wanting to bag Highway, but lost it to Alia. Clearly, these two are the freshest faces who will compete with each other in the coming year for critical acclaim.

In fact, when Alia appeared on Koffee With Karan, and was asked about insecurity, she said, “There are times that you do feel insecure, and I feel that’s very important for me, because then I work harder.” When asked who makes her insecure, Alia didn’t hesitate to name Parineeti. “I think she’s fantastic. I think she’s so good that I wish I was that good. She’s so effortless, and her command over the language is something that I love.”

But later, when it was the rapid fire round, and Karan Johar asked Alia who she would gift the ‘Style for Dummies’ book to, Alia chose Parineeti, stating that she’s a good actor who could do better in the style zone.

Cousins Farah Khan and Farhan Akhtar celebrate their birthdays today and last evening, the duo were surrounded by close family and friends as they brought in their big day together.

While Farhan turns forty, Farah has turned forty-nine.

Among those who were spotted entering Farhan’s residence were his mom Honey Irani, wife Adhuna Bhabhani Akhtar, father Javed Akhtar, Farah’s mother Daisy Irani and film-makers Reema Kagti and Ritesh Sidhwani.

This year, Farhan’s fans will get to see him in three big films. First up will be Shaadi Ke Side Effects opposite Vidya Balan (this is a sequel to Pyaar Ke Side Effects). Then, he will be seen with Shah Rukh Khan in Raees and finally in Reema Kagti‘s next project in which he plays the role of a man who is polygamist.

There are also whispers that Farhan is looking at directing Don 3.

Parineeti Chopra

Yep! It’s quite a sexy and bootylicious figure that Parineeti Chopra cuts here. She may not be size zero but she sure has all the right curves and knows how to flaunt them with style.

But this body doesn’t come easy. We’re told that during the shooting for Hasee Toh Phasee, Parineeti was very specifically told to stay off junk food like cupcakes, chocolate and pizza, in an effort to maintain her curvaceous bod.

This of course, was no easy task because Parineeti is a self-confessed foodie. In fact, when we interviewed her back in April 2013, she told us that the best way for her fans to meet her in person was to “Just get me some pizza. Then I’ll surely never forget you throughout your life.”

Parineeti’s role in HTP requires her to sport a lean look and on the last day of the shoot, director Vinil Mathew actually presented her with a box of cupcakes to make up for the long months of abstinence on her part.

Says Vinil Mathew in a media note, “I had categorically told Parineeti to stay away from eating junk food as I wanted her to maintain her look in the film. She loves pizzas and cupcakes and because I felt bad about depriving her from her comfort food, I rewarded her with a box of cupcakes on the last day of the film’s shoot.”

John Abraham and Shoojit Sircar

John Abraham and Shoojit Sircar have had a great run together, with two hit films to their names - Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe (which were both very different movies). Now, they are back yet again for another flick, and from the looks of it, this is going to be a departure yet again from their previous work. The hit producer-director jodi will be working together for a film on football, a game that both of them really love. The interesting bit, though, is that this movie won’t be set in modern day – in fact, it is a period flick, set over a century ago!

The film is based on the famous football club’s, Mohun Bagan’s, victory against the East Yorkshire Regiment back in 1911. Mohun Bagan became the first native team to have won the IFA Shield when they beat the foreigners. Most interestingly, the Indian team played bare feet and wore dhotis, while the British team wore boots and shorts. It’s going to be fun to watch!

Shoojit Sircar says:

“We both love football and so when I sent over the script to John, I knew he would love it and he did. We are just prepping for the film now and will only start early next year. It will be shot almost entirely in Bengal.”

Ronnie Lahiri of Rising Sun Entertainment also chimed in, saying, “After Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe, we want to continue partnering with John and keep making fresh films on innovative subjects. We don’t make a lot of sports films in our country and this one is straight from history.”

The film will be written by Gulab Gang director Soumik Sen, and will go on floors in early 2015. Are you looking forward to it? We are!

Shah Rukh Khan and Drashti Dhami

The gorgeous Drashti Dhami celebrates her 29th birthday. She is known as the “Madhubala of the TV world” (at least, that’s what Ranbir Kapoor calls her!) since the actress stars in the famous television series, Madhubala. She’s got quite the fan following too – her fans and well-wishers have kept the hashtag #HappyBirthdayDrashtiDhami trending on Twitter since this morning. And it’s not hard to see why she’s got such a big fan base: in addition to rocking it on the small screen (she’s also had projects like Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi and Dill Mill Gayye in the past), Drashti can also kill it on the dance floor. She walked away as the winner of the latest season of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, after delivering a number of great performances. Here are 5 of our favourites from her JDJ run!

Waltz

Drashti started off Jhalak as a non-dancer, and keeping this in mind, her first performance was great. She and her choreographer partner Salman Yusuf Khan did a waltz to Ishq Wala Love from Student of the Year, and although the judges praised her generally, they did note that she looked slightly nervous and hesitant. We liked it regardless, and it’s great to look back at this video to see how much she’s improved throughout the course of the show.

Jive

Drashti’s jive to Tumse Mili Nazar is full of energy and so much fun. Some fantastic moves in there, which they carried off very smoothly. Madhuri gave it her trademark, “perfect,” Remo said, “this is it,” and Karan called it a “badtameez performance.” A 10/10 from all the judges.

Bollywood

Hot is the only word for this one. Drashti was the item girl for this episode, and gave a performance to Fevicol Se that was so good, Karan Johar even commented that she was way better than Kareena Kapoor.

Madhuri Dixit tribute

Drashti was sensual for this Madhuri Dixit tribute, but the best thing is that she managed to pull off those expressions as well! The expressions are the greatest part of a Madhuri Dixit dance, so it’s good that she paid as much attention to them as to her moves.

Acrobacia

This is our favourite Drashti dance. She and Salman received a standing ovation from Karan Johar, and he even told them that he can’t give any comments since he was awestruck throughout the whole thing. Madhuri called her breathtaking, and Remo complimented her transitions (high praise, coming from that guy).
