That starlet Sherlyn Chopra is a bad girl is a no-brainer. She went to town proclaiming that she was India’s first Playboy bunny (which is definitely not true because Katy Mirza beat her to it back in the ’70s) and more than a year later, we are yet too see her pictures printed in the magazine.

And then, to keep herself in the news, Sherlyn posted a picture of her on Twitter, doing unmentionable things with a cucumber.

Now, the starlet-turned-singer is busy promoting her debut album, called Bad Girl, but has once again created a controversy to keep herself in the news.

Unfortunately for her, the plan seems to have back-fired this time and she has been sued for Rupees Five Crore.

The problem started when director of Kama Sutra 3D, Rupesh Paul, expressed his displeasure at Sherlyn not showing up for a promotional event to launch the music of the film at a multiplex in Mumbai. Apparently, he termed her as being unprofessional and likened her career to that of a stripper and a porn star.

Not taking kindly to Rupesh Paul’s statements about her, Sherlyn unleashed her fury on Twitter with a barrage of abusive tweets and pretty soon, her fans joined in too, abusing Paul with the choicest of vulgar language.

She distanced herself from the film (this, after having promoted it at various film festivals across the world, including in Cannes) for no apparent reason.

Offended by Sherlyn and her fans’ unruly behaviour on the micro-blogging site, Rupesh Paul has sent her a legal notice and is suing her for Rupees Five Crores under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Incidentally, the film has been nominated in three categories at the upcoming Oscar Awards – best motion picture, best original song and best background score.

Whether all of this is just to create buzz around the film and keep themselves in the news, we aren’t really sure. But knowing Sherlyn’s penchant for creating fire from just a wisp of smoke, we’re convinced that it’s just another back-handed way to promote her solo music album.

With Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar has his trifecta of superstars – Akki follows Salman Khan and Aamir Khan as two actors who appeared on an episode of Koffee With Karan for the first time. You can tell right off the bat that Akshay wasn’t too enthusiastic about coming on this show, and, in fact, he completely took Karan’s case while there. He told the host that no one likes to be grilled, no one wants to answer anything stupid, and no one wants to hurt anyone’s feelings. Ouch! Despite that, over the course of the show, we learned several things about Akshay – and we’ve rounded those up here for you so you can have a quick recap!

1. He loves Twinkle Khanna’s candid personality

It turns out that Twinkle was approached to be on the show, but she chose not to since she felt she would open her mouth and say something that she would later regret. KJo claimed that Twinkle will say anything that comes to her head, and Akshay agreed, saying she has no filter. He even related one incident, when he took her for the trial of one of his films, and at the end of it she told the producer, “Shit film banayi aapne.” (“You made a shit film.”) Poor Akshay, that producer never worked with him again! However, it’s that nature that keeps Akshay and Twinkle together. The actor claimed that they are poles apart and that’s why they keep discovering new things about each other.

Twinkle’s candid personality is something KJo loves as well – in fact, Twinkle is the only woman KJo has been madly in love with!

2. He starts his day early

Karan revealed that this was the earliest he’s ever shot an episode of Koffee With Karan. Akshay wanted to do it at 6am, but they convinced him to start at 8am and eventually began at 9. Karan asked him why he likes to torture people, to which Akshay replied, “I’m surprised you call it torturing. Mornings, you’re supposed to get up and work! You should go to sleep early and wake up early. I finish a lot of work in the morning, and by 6 I’m absolutely free. I get a lot of time to spend with my family, my children. I even get time to drop my son to school, bring him back… we have to have, if not lunch, then dinner together on the table. There are some rules in the house and we need to follow that. That’s it.”

Sonakshi Sinha said he likes to start his day at 5am, go to the gym, and be on sets by 7am. Lara Dutta said it’s great he likes to start early, but that often means that the actress has to start her makeup at 4am. Kareena Kapoor Khan, meanwhile, said that she doesn’t know when they’ll start shooting, because “5am is not happening. I can’t wake up at 5. You like packing up at 4pm, while I start at 2… so I don’t know how we’ll balance this.”

3. He’s terrible with his dialogues

Lara Dutta also revealed that, “He is terrible with his dialogues. So half the time the actresses have the dialogues printed on a paper on her costume, behind her head, so Akshay can read off. It looks like he’s looking at you but he’s reading off his dialogues.” But there’s a reason to that: Akshay says it’s a waste of time if his co-actor recites a long dialogue and then has to say it all again just because he has forgotten his. Therefore, by having a board in the back, he can read off his dialogues and save everyone the time!

4. He prefers staying silent about some matters

In a sharp contrast to his wife, Akshay has a good “filter” when it comes to speaking his mind. The actor’s initial hesitation about coming to the show was because he felt Karan asked questions that would lead to controversy. He said he doesn’t like speaking about people, and doesn’t want to go through the hassle of calling people later to clarify things that he said on the show. “I didn’t want to speak wrong about anyone. That is not me. I’m not made like that. I cannot say anything… if someone is doing something wrong to me, I’ll just keep quiet.” Is there dignity in silence or is it perceived as a weakness? “I believe silence is much better. I’ve saved myself in lots of things by just being silent.” That’s why he didn’t elaborate much on the Joker issue. He did say that there were some things which he felt weren’t right, but he’s proud of the film and, whatever the fate, it is still his film at the end of the day.

5. He’s not ashamed of his casanova image

He’s been referred to as a huge casanova in the past, but it’s not something he’s ashamed about. “I’m not ashamed of it. I was not married, I was a full-grown man, so there’s nothing wrong with what I did in life.” As for whether he finds it difficult to be faithful now, Akshay says, “When you have your children waiting back home, after pack up you just want to run back.”

6. Akshay’s mother is the secret of his success

At this point, Akshay says he has everything – even the things he couldn’t imagine or dream of. “For me, I just have to ask my mother – this is what I want. And all she has to do is rub my hair and say ‘puttar, koi gaal nahin. Mil jayega.‘ And it happens. I always tell people, you don’t have to go to any temple or mandir or anything. You just have to be with your mother and father. You just have to ask them. To me, it has happened. To my sister, it has happened. To a lot of other people who have done this, it has happened. This is the formula I’ve always followed.”

7. He can fix cards

Don’t try to gamble with Akshay as your opponent, ’cause he knows how to cheat. The actor readily admits that he knows how to fix cards and has picked up this technique in Thailand. Apparently, even Karan’s mum asks Akshay to sit next to her when she’s playing so that she can win. “I told people I can fix cards. I deliberately lose when I go for these Diwali parties, because I’ve only told them I can fix cards.”

Ever since Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Roshan confirmed their separation, everyone has been wanting to know more – such as, exactly what happened between the two, whether there is any hope of reconciliation, and what will happen going forth. While Sussanne spoke briefly about the end of the relationship at the launch of her store, Bandra 190, Hrithik has, thus far, remained mum about the subject.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that everyone wants to be the first to have an exclusive sit-down conversation with him about his marriage. However, Hrithik is having none of it – it turns out that the actor actually lost his temper recently when a network contacted him to do an interview on the subject. Industrywalla tells us what exactly got him angry; read on for the details!

Industrywalla says: While he looks fairly cool-headed in public, Hrithik Roshan has admitted in the past to having a “crazy temper” and even says it’s better to throw a temper tantrum than keep it bottled inside. Well, it looks like a television network was on the receiving end of one of his temper tantrums recently! The actor lost his cool when he was offered monetary compensation for giving a no holds barred interview on his separation to a leading TV network. Duggu, being the person he is, was appalled that someone tried to bribe him to get a scoop and better ratings. The channel really wanted to be the first to speak to the actor on why his marriage ended, and therefore also offered to let him screen the questions before the actual interview took place. But Hrithik lost his cool and sent a nasty SMS to the channel head saying he would never speak to the network if there were any more attempts to contact him for such an interview!

There has been a lot of back-and-forth regarding whether Kareena Kapoor Khan is part of Rohit Shetty‘s Singham 2 or not. Originally, she was intended to play the lead character, but later, reports began cropping up that it was too small a role for her to do. However, now it is confirmed that the actress is a part of this film, and Industrywalla tells us that there are chances she will do a Lavani dance, since she plays the character of a Maharashtrian girl in this flick. Here’s what he has to say!

Industrywalla says: Kareena Kapoor Khan is quite excited about working with Rohit Shetty once again for Singham 2 (they have done the popular Golmaal series in the past). Bebo has now blocked off all the required dates for the film, as she wants to be sure that she is able to give the project all the time that it needs. Rohit and Kareena had a long chat some time ago, and that is when she told him that even though the film belongs to Ajay Devgn, she wants to have a meaty, substantial role to play herself. It should not be anything like the first Singham, where the lead heroine, Kajal Agarwal, didn’t have much to do. After all, Kareena isn’t really going to settle for something small, so Rohit has kept that in mind while writing the female character for the film. Now, there is even a buzz that – like Vidya Balan in Ferrari Ki Sawaari – Bebo too might do a Lavani number in the film, since she plays a Marathi Mulgi as well!

Shiamak Davar and Prabhudheva

Shiamak Davar and Prabhudheva are two of the biggest names in the Indian dance industry, but what happens when the two of them come together? You won’t have to wait too long to find out, because Prabhudheva has done a dance performance at the recently-held Star Guild Awards, which Shiamak himself has choreographed. The performance was a mix of their two dance styles – Shiamak’s “indo contemporary” and Prabhudheva’s classic Michael Jackson style.

It’ll be interesting to see something like this, which brings together two talented people from within the same industry. When the choreographer gets choreographed, you know? Some good news pouring in: Sachiin Joshi and Urvashi Sharma have just been blessed with a beautiful baby girl! The couple tied the knot in February of 2012, and in August of the next year, Urvashi announced her pregnancy in style by having a note written (in icing!) on her husband’s birthday cake. Sachiin confirmed the news at that time, saying he feels truly blessed and letting everyone know the baby is due in early 2014. Well, Urvashi has just had the baby, so here’s congratulating the couple and wishing them all the best for this new phase in their life!

The first look poster of Main Tera Hero is out. It looks like the cover of an action hero comic book. The film stars Varun Dhawan, Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri.

Interestingly, while most comic book covers might depict the superhero saving a damsel in distress, this poster has Varun hogging all the limelight (not that we mind) with both his leading ladies conspicuous by their absence.

The film, directed by Varun’s dad, David Dhawan, is a remake of a Telugu blockbuster, Kandireega.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone

While it’s quite obvious that Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are seeing each other, the two have not come out directly and spoken about their status. While Ranveer has, in the past, given interviews that clearly indicate his feelings for her, Deepika has chosen to be a lot quieter about it. That has resulted in people speculating about why exactly she’s keeping this on the down-low, and MissMalini reader moonshine even posted a comment on a previous post of ours asking, “Why do you think [Deepika] hasn’t made up her mind? Is she seeing anyone else?” We posed the question to Industrywalla, who wrote back with the following answer.

Industrywalla says: Deepika is suffering from the “once bitten, twice shy” syndrome. She has realised how the media vultures swooped upon her after the breakup with Ranbir Kapoor and understandably doesn’t want a repeat of that.

She’s playing it safe because she doesn’t want to add another name on her romantic resume. In fact, she categorically told Ranveer to refrain from any PDA or talking about her in the press. The only little flirting she encouraged was during Ram Leela, and, if you notice, she has taken a big step back after the movie’s release.

You have to realise it was very important for Dippy that Ram Leela did well at the box office. It was her way of telling everyone – even Ranbir – that she can deliver an equally big hit on her own. There was a lot at stake with RL, and the film’s success proved beyond any doubt that DPad was the star of 2013. As for Ranveer, it does not look like she’s going to change her stance anytime soon as far as her public acceptance of their relationship goes.

Also – and here’s a doozy – I have been hearing whispers from mutual friends that there is a slight possibility (slight being the keyword!) that Ranbir and Deepika may get back together. Amy Jackson with Alfie

It’s been a busy week for Amy Jackson and Arjun Rampal, both of whom have been actively involved in spreading social awareness about the plight of animals.

Amy has just shot a new campaign for PeTA which encourages her fans and followers to adopt – and not buy – cats and dogs as pets.

Portrayed as an angel with Alfie, her rescued pet cat in her arms, the visual exhorts you to “Be an Angel for Animals: Adopt. Don’t Buy!”

Amy had rescued Alfie when he was just six weeks old and abandoned in a box along with his brothers and sisters. Says Amy in a media statement, “We can stop the cycle of animal homelessness and save lives by opening our hearts and homes to a loving cat or dog from an animal shelter instead of buying animals from breeders or pet shops.”

Arjun Rampal also took time out of his schedule earlier this week to meet the Maharashtra State Forest Minister, Dr. Patangrao Kadam and petitioned him to facilitate the release of Sundar, a fourteen year old elephant, who is tied up at a temple in Kolhapur.

In a formal letter which Rampal handed over to the minister, he wrote, “I am deeply saddened to learn that, despite yours and the High Court of Bombay’s orders, the young elephant named Sunder has not yet been moved to a sanctuary where he can live his life free from chains and beatings that he continues to suffer.”

Arjun has also offered to donate a life-size statue of an elephant (from his own funds) in exchange for the release of the pachyderm.

Here’s hoping the efforts of these two Bollywood actors will make a difference to the lives of many animals in need out there!

Akshai Varde

Akshai Varde ditched the traditional white gelding horse that Indian grooms are accustomed to ride to their wedding and arrived on a custom-made motorbike instead, for his wedding to Bollywood actress Sameera Reddy.

The two dated for a couple of years and after their engagement in December 2013, Akshai and Sameera got married at the bride’s residence in Mumbai, yesterday.

We believe it was a traditional Maharashtrian wedding with only close family and friends of the couple, in attendance.

Speaking to Team MissMalini about the wedding outfit, designer Nishka Lulla said, “My mother, Neeta Lulla, had designed the wedding saree for Sameera. When the bride approached her to design the wedding saree, she was very clear that it must look traditional. Even though the wedding was conducted with Maharashtrian rites and rituals, Neeta Lulla designed a Kanjeevaram saree with a bit of a contemporary twist.

The colours used were cream, maroon and saffron yellow, fitting for the ceremonial occasion.”

Actor Varun Dhawan sure made the day for a group of vegetable and fruit vendors at the famed Crawford Market in Mumbai where he was spotted shooting for Colors, yesterday.

Dressed in a white kurta, torn jeans, Nehru cap and a salmon pink gamcha around his neck, Varun looked like a vegetable vendor who’s recently taken a crash course in street style.

Needless to add, the young hunk was surrounded by star-struck shop-keepers and the public, making it a bit of an effort for him to concentrate on the job at hand.

However, he did oblige the fruit and vegetable sellers with a photo-op and happily perched next to them for pictures.

Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh

While Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor have been receiving good comments for the trailer of Gunday, a little-known fact is that the two actually wanted to play each other’s roles! The director, Ali Abbas Zaffar, gave them a joint narration without specifying who would be playing which character. Turns out, at the end of it, Ranveer wanted to be signed on to play the role of Bala, while Arjun connected a lot more with Bikram.

It’s easy to see why, too – Bala is supposed to be the more outspoken, flamboyant and boisterous of the two, and we know those are three traits that Ranveer definitely has. Meanwhile, Bikram is slightly quieter, of the ‘angry young man’ variety, something that suited Arjun’s personality more. However, they were in for a bit of a surprise when Ali revealed that he’d like them to play the other characters – Ranveer, Bikram; Arjun, Bala.

Word has it that, at that point, Ranveer tried reasoning with him by saying that audiences have see him more as a Bala, and love him like that. However, the director was adamant that he wanted Ranveer to play Bikram and Arjun to play Bala. He tried persuading the duo to give it a shot, and after discussing it for a little while, the actors agreed to go with his vision. Now, even those who have seen portions of the film during editing claim that they work best as these characters, and cannot imagine them playing the other.

Either way, the trailer’s looking good, so here’s hoping that both the actors knocked it out of the park with their respective roles. The Winners – Tobias Lindholm, filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, producer Ashlee Page, and director Hong Khaou

Congratulations to Neeraj Ghaywan - he is one of the four filmmakers (and the only Indian) who has been recognised at the Sundance Institute Mahindra Global Filmmaking Awards as an emerging independent filmmaker. At a private ceremony in Park City, Utah, Neeraj won for his screenplay Fly Away Solo, and, as part of his reward, will receive the following benefits: a $10,000 cash reward, attendance at the Sundance Film Festival for targeted industry and creative meetings, year-round mentoring from Institute staff and creative advisors, eligibility to participate in a Sundance Institute Lab, and ongoing creative and strategic support from Sundance Institute’s Feature Film Program.

Previously, Neeraj has directed two short films, including a segment of Anurag Kashyap‘s Shorts. He has also been the assistant director for Gangs of Wasseypur and the upcoming Ugly. Now, this award means that he will receive help from the institute (which is partnered with Mahindra for this award) to turn the screenplay of Fly Away Solo into a film.

“Sundance Institute shares with Mahindra Group a joint global commitment to nurturing new artists. India is one of the most extraordinary cultures in the world, with the support of Anand Mahindra and his group, Sundance Institute screenwriters’ lab can support the next generation of their storytellers.”

The screenwriters’ lab, which began in 2011, brings together eight Indian screenwriters from across the world to develop their work with the help of international screenwriters.

You’ve been hearing the reports that this famous B-Town couple has called it quits, but is it true? Have Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif really broken up?

The answer is yes, they have – but this may be only temporary. They had an argument towards the end of their recent  US vacation, although they masked it well from people within the industry. The argument wasn’t the reason they returned separately, however. Ranbir had work commitments, and Katrina had to take care of a medical issue in New York. Plus, the actress had always planned on returning via London after seeing her family, as reported earlier. Usually, Katrina spends Christmas with her family, but that didn’t happen this time. Instead, she planned to take the holiday with Ranbir to bring in the new year, and then visit her family later in January, which she did. Her mother even returned with her.

Things went downhill once the two were back in Mumbai, and that’s when the real cracks in their relationship began to show. They have had several arguments post their holiday, as Katrina felt Ranbir wasn’t giving their relationship his all. Here are some reasons why they had their row:

1. Katrina wanted Ranbir to commit to getting engaged to her – not an actual date, as they have decided they won’t get married now, but at least a timeframe. Apparently, Ranbir wasn’t willing to do so.

2. Katrina is even a bit miffed that he prefers not to acknowledge their relationship in public. Even on Koffee With Karan, he didn’t come out and say he was dating her, despite the fact that he was being egged on to.

3. I am told by some of their friends that Katrina was also upset about the fact that Ranbir and Deepika are still in touch over the phone. In fact, one of their arguments took place after she stumbled upon some of DPad’s messages on his phone. These are the same friends who are currently talking about whether Ranbir and Deepika will get back together, as I mentioned earlier. The chances of that happening look very slim to me – and to a lot of us, I’m sure – but that is the chatter in certain industry circles.

However, another friend mentioned to me that Ranbir loves Katrina, and this looks like a temporary blip. This friend is expecting that they will get back together after they have given each other some space, so it’s not necessarily a permanent break-up – relationships change over time, and the dynamics are always unpredictable.

Readers also wanted some clarifications, so I’m answering them below:

1. Did the fights happen while in New York, or afterwards?

Their vacation was mostly a fun affair, but towards the end of it they had an argument. What made it worse is Kat’s health issue, which was causing her lot of stress. However, as stated, they came back separately for different reasons. The fight only got really bad once they were back.

2. You’ve previously mentioned that Ranbir and Deepika only share a professional equation and are not in touch otherwise. Then how come they’re messaging each other now?

Honestly, what goes on between Ranbir and Deepika is something only they know. But post Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, they didn’t really make any attempt to stay in touch. Whatever messages Katrina has seen have come now, much later. Who knows what the messages really are (they may be innocent), but like any girlfriend, Katrina was upset that her boyfriend’s ex was still messaging him. These messages have also been a talking point for their friends within the industry, as I mentioned above.

3. Why is Katrina upset about him not committing when they have mutually decided not to get married now?

Because she feels that if he doesn’t do it now, he won’t ever do it. There is no date that she wants put on this wedding, but she wants him to at least give her a speculative time frame for it. You have to remember that these are two of the most sought after actors, so they have their calendars full with films.

4. If Katrina is upset that Ranbir doesn’t publicly acknowledge their relationship, why doesn’t she do it herself? She acts like she never wants to talk about him either.

She feels it’s a guy thing to admit it in public. If you know Katrina, then you will know she’s extremely shy and reserved as a person and therefore won’t do any acknowledging herself. She opens up to very few people. In fact, she hardly has any friends in the industry. After coming out of her awkward relationship with Salman, she wanted RK to go public with her. That never happened.

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

Even though the news of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif calling it quits – for now, at least – is true, I am told that they will have to have some form of a patch up very soon. While certain friends are skeptical about things working out, others believe that this is just a “temporary blip” in their relationship, and things will be fine after they’ve given each other a little space. However, even if they don’t fix things to the point of getting back together, Ranbir and Katrina will need to at least be on relatively good terms because of one reason – they also have a professional equation and will need to complete a film!

The two are doing Jagga Jasoos together, Ranbir’s first film as a co-producer (he is working on it alongside Anurag Basu, who is also the director). The film is still a while away from releasing, though, as it will hit theatres next year during the last Friday of May, which will be the first Friday after the end of 2015′s IPL season. They won’t be the first Bollywood pair to work together after a break up, but that is assuming that they even remain broken up.

In fact, a friend has insisted to me that this break up is temporary, and has even claimed that the two will be seen out together in public soon. The same friend says that there is too much at stake for this relationship to fizzle out this soon!

Again, though, only time will tell what happens in the future with these two. There are many issues at play, and relationships, especially those in the limelight, can be very unpredictable. I’ll keep you posted as I hear more about this situation, but do you think these two will work things out?

Shah Rukh Khan

Sadly, Shah Rukh Khan has been injured while shooting for Happy New Year at the JW Marriott in Juhu. Apparently, for a certain scene, Shah Rukh was supposed to open a door and walk through it. Unfortunately, the 80 kilo wooden door ended up crashing on him instead. An injured and bleeding SRK was rushed to Nanavati Hospital, but thankfully, the actor is doing okay.

His office has even released a statement, assuring everyone that he is fine:

Mr Khan had a minor accident on the sets while shooting. He has a minor injury and has got the necessary medical aid. Mr Khan is absolutely fine now. Thank you for all your wishes!

Strangely, the actor tweeted earlier today saying that he hopes all he hears today is music in his ears, nothing else. Eeps!

Still, we’re glad Shah Rukh’s injury is not too bad, and we hope that he recovers very soon!
