The young stars of Hasee Toh Phasee, Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra were spotted at the famed Mehboob Studios in Mumbai, yesterday.

The duo have been in publicity overdrive to promote their upcoming rom-com. Sidharth plays the role of a boy who is introverted, lost and very sentimental. According to reports, it’s not a typical hero role. Parineeti, on the other hand, plays a girl who is extroverted and happy-go-lucky.

Of course, like any Bollywood film, there will be the regulation love triangle thrown in, for good measure.

And in case you’re wondering what the movie title is all about, co-producer Karan Johar went on to explain, “Hasee Toh Phasee is a cool expression that we thought went with this film’s energy. Actually, I don’t think the title has anything to do with the film. It was a good title, it had a nice ring to it, everyone liked it, it looked good on the poster too… so we used it.” They also said that Vikas Bahl from Phantom Films came up with the title, and he laughingly said that it came to him because he had a fight with his wife that morning and he thought, ‘Agar woh aaj hasee, toh phasee’.

Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan

When Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Roshan first announced their separation, people began talking about how there may be something going on between him and Katrina Kaif. These rumours cropped up again recently, when the news broke that Katrina and Ranbir Kapoor have called off their relationship. But is there any truth to these talks that have been doing the rounds?

We asked around a few people within the industry, and the general consensus is that these are only rumours, nothing more. Out of the whoever we’ve spoken to, no one believes that the two are anything more than friends. One source says that since Hrithik and Katrina are starring in a movie together (Bang Bang), people will speculate and these rumours are bound to crop up.

Also, Hrithik and Katrina are friends, which may be one of the reasons for all this chatter. We have reported in the past that the two share a great professional relationship and are fairly close, so after Hrithik’s split with his wife, Katrina has been attempting to cheer him up as and when she can. It’s possible, then, that this friendship is being mistaken for something it’s not.

All things considered, the relationship rumours are probably not bad publicity for their movie, but for now, we wouldn’t get too carried away making assumptions about any romance between these two stars.

When we told you that these relationships are unpredictable and things change over time, we didn’t expect them to be changing so rapidly. But Industrywalla has just written in with some exclusive, first-hand gossip about Ranbir Kapoor & Katrina Kaif, so read on… it seems like the two are already back together!

Industrywalla says: Here is what I am told by someone who was present at Yash Raj studios yesterday: there didn’t seem to be anything wrong between Ranbir and Katrina, who were both at the studios to rehearse for the Filmfare awards! While it’s anyone’s guess what actually happened behind the scenes with these two that could have resulted in them solving their issues, everything looked fine on the surface. Ranbir is this year’s host, and has therefore been busy with rehearsals for some time now. Meanwhile, Katrina was there to record her act (Kamli and Dhoom Machale).

As per my eyewitness, Ranbir drove Katrina back to her home, and the two were behaving normally by all indications. In fact, Ranbir even cheered her on while watching her act (Kamli plus Dhoom Machale), and it almost looked like nothing had happened between the two. 

Like I mentioned earlier, a friend of the couple kept saying it was only a “temporary blip.” According to these reports, this friend’s theory has held up, because they look like they have fixed whatever problems they had between them. However, the bottom line is, these are two young people. Like in every relationship, there will always be fights… but they may keep patching up as well. For now, all looks to be fine, but don’t be surprised if there is more drama in the coming days. You never know how these things shape up!

Can we all take a moment out to laugh at the picture above? Aamir Khan just tweeted it along with a line saying that it’s his favourite picture of him and Salman Khan, and even noting that, “Do dost ek jhaad pe susu kartein hain toh dosti badti hai.” (“When two friends pee in the same bush, their friendship becomes stronger.”) Hilarious and ridiculous – and it sounds even more hilarious and ridiculous when translated into English. This is all part of the promotions for Jai Ho, as Aamir has been doing a countdown of sorts for the film’s release.

Their friendship really is quite sweet – they weren’t all that close after Andaz Apna Apna, but later on, they grew fonder of each other. Salman even helped promote Dhoom 3 a bit, so I guess Aamir is only reciprocating!

Another day, and B-Town is still as busy as ever! Before you buckle down to get through the work day, here’s a quick look at the major headlines making the news this morning, and what you should expect to happen throughout the day.

Firstly, it’s Friday (yay!) which means that Salman Khan‘s Jai Ho hits the screens today. According to the trade analysts, the advance booking has been going solid, so I guess you can say that Bhai’s magic is working again – even if it’s not Eid! In fact, a press release about the film that we received days ago said, “Anyway, whenever Salman’s film releases, it is by default a festival.” *lol* Still, we will have to wait and see whether this film really makes waves at the box office. Also happening today is the Filmfare Awards, which will take place at the Yash Raj Films studios. Several stars, such as Katrina Kaif, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are expected to perform, while Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are the hosts for the evening. Keep an eye out for the list of winners, and make sure to catch the telecast this Sunday (the 26th) as well.

We told you yesterday that things seem to be fine between Ranbir and Katrina after a brief split, and this morning, Mirror‘s sources have also told them the same thing. The report says that the “reunion isn’t surprising” and “every relationship has its share of ups and downs.” On the flipside, BT reports that the two were “hostile” at a Jagga Jasoos shoot and were only “cordial” at the Filmfare rehearsals. This whole situation is clearly getting even more confusing as the days go on…

But while Ranbir-Katrina’s marriage may still be a big question, Arijit Singh‘s is not! The Tum Hi Ho singer secretly got hitched to his childhood friend Koel on Tuesday. The wedding took place in Bengal and was super hush-hush, with only close friends and family being present. Pritam, who has been Arijit’s mentor of sorts, was there as well. The composer had an integral part to play in the wedding ceremonies.

On that (musical) note, we have a bit of good news to share with those of you who have been enjoying the music of Highway so far. The digital album is supposed to release tomorrow, with Patakha Guddi, Maahi Ve, Sooha Saha, Kaha Hoon Mein and Wanna Mashup on the list of tracks. Does Wanna Mashup look out of place? Well, it’s an English track – surprising since the film is otherwise filled with Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi songs – and will be a “groovy western dance number” with rap and reggae. According to the note we received from the film’s PR team, any English track would have done in that situation of the film, but Imtiaz Ali and A R Rahman wanted an original track for their film.

And for those of you who were concerned: Shah Rukh Khan is doing fine post his accident yesterday, and even returned to the sets (where he was received with claps and cheers) post his discharge from the hospital.

Varun Dhawan

When Varun Dhawan made his big Bollywood debut in Karan Johar‘s Student Of The Year, back in 2012, more than just a handful of critics stood up and took notice.

Sure, he shared screen time with Sidharth Malhotra, but through the film, Varun held his own and was critically acclaimed for his performance.

Now, two years later, Varun will be seen on the big screen again in his second film, Main Tera Hero, which has him in the lead role co-starring with Nargis Fakhri and Ileana D’Cruz.

The trailer was officially released in Mumbai yesterday, where all three stars came together along with producer Ekta Kapoor and director David Dhawan (Varun’s dad).

However, even though a number of new stars have been launched in Bollywood over the past two years, here are five reasons we think Varun Dhawan should be Bollywood’s next hero No.1:

Varun is a very fluid dancer and knows how to shake his booty for maximum impact. We particularly loved him in the song Vele from SOTY.

Being the good looking boy that he is, Varun is a total chick-magnet. Apart from being linked to Alia Bhatt (which is definitely not true), he’s supposedly been in a long term relationship with a girl named Natasha Dalal.

Any hero must have multiple link-ups and Varun hasn’t done too bad with these stories recurring in the press from time to time.

Apart from romancing hot women and showing them his best moves (on and off the dance floor), a true hero must have a good sense of humour. At the trailer launch yesterday, Varun said, “Comedy is in my blood. I have inherited that. It is like a reflex action in my body.”

Of course, he didn’t have to go too far to learn how to tickle our ribs, his father is known as the comedy king of Bollywood.

It feels like Yo Yo Honey Singh shot to fame almost overnight. While he was known for his music before, when Angrezi Beat made it to Cocktail, everyone suddenly took interest in him. Since then, he’s done several more songs for so many more movies, and he’s all the rage right now. Yo! Yo! Honey Singh: No, not at all. Never going to change as well. A true artist never changes, that’s what I believe. I know lots of legends but they haven’t changed, they’re still like that. I am so lucky, all these superstars pulled me up to Bollywood. I was doing a little small music scene back in Chandigarh. They called me up for Cocktail. Superstars like Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and later Akshay (Kumar) paaji and after that Shah Rukh Khan saab. He is like a legend. We just did one tour with Shah Rukh Khan saab and I learned a lot. He is Shah Rukh. He doesn’t think that he is Shah Rukh Khan, the King Khan. He never says that, I never heard him saying, “Okay, I am the baadshah, you know, tu jaanta hain na, mujhse bada koi nahin.” He always talks like my bada paaji. He is very low key. I think this is the time everybody might be thinking, ke ab iska dimaag kharaab ho jaayega. So I am blessed by God that God gave me these people to look up to. You are not even one percent of them.

Salman Khan‘s Jai Ho, which released yesterday, is all set to have a good weekend at the box office. According to trade analysts, the film has had around an 80% – 100% opening in certain sectors, and should go higher on Republic Day (Sunday). Reviews remain mixed for the most part, but one thing is certain: the film will make money. Whether it’ll break records is yet to be seen.

The Filmfare awards were held last night, and the who’s who of Bollywood was out to accept awards, perform, or just enjoy the show. Stay tuned for more coverage on that front – we’ve got lots of pictures and the winners’ list coming to you very soon.

Unfortunately for Shah Rukh Khan, although he went back to the Happy New Year sets after being injured while shooting, his troubles are not over just yet. That same day, the actor returned to the hospital for further tests, and was told that he would require bed rest for the next three weeks. According to reports, that means the shooting for Happy New Year will get pushed back. Major portions of the film have already been shot; however, a few sequences need to be wrapped up. Those will have to wait until SRK’s injury has healed.

Yesterday, YRF’s Aditya Chopra announced that he would now launch and support new producers under his own banner, starting with their existing talent pool. The first is Maneesh Sharma (who has previously directed Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and Shuddh Desi Romance). Maneesh will be producing the Sharad Katariya-directed Dum Laga Ke Haisha, which will star Ayushmann Khurrana. The film will go on floors early next month, and is expected to release in 2015.

Meanwhile, there are two books being launched in the industry currently! Tisca Chopra is releasing her book Acting Smart: Your Ticket to Showbiz, which Imtiaz Ali will be launching at an event tomorrow. At the same time, there’s another book by 9 year old Kashvee R Barjatya, titled Lost in the Woods, which will be unveiled by some glamorous stars like Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon and – of course – the Barjatya clan, including Sooraj Barjatya.

For the first time in history, Yash Raj Films will be hosting a success bash for one of their projects - Dhoom: 3. Usually, the production house shies away from throwing success parties for their films. However, considering this one in particular has broken all records, it looks like they decided that now is finally the time. It’s going to be a big one, too. The last time they held a party of such a magnitude was for the Jab Tak Hai Jaan release, and that was more in memory of the late Yash Chopra, who passed away only a little while before the film was scheduled to hit the big screen.

Now, Aditya Chopra himself has apparently gotten into the planning of this lavish party, which will be held tomorrow (Sunday) on the terrace lounge of the Yash Raj studios. The guest list includes – of course – the entire cast and crew of Dhoom 3, along with YRF’s in-house talent, friends, family, those who are particularly close to Adi Chopra, and Aamir Khan‘s special guest list as well.

We’re told that this is all set to be a grand affair, and Yash Raj really wants to do it in style since it is the first time in their approximately 45 years of operations that they are hosting a bash to celebrate the success of a film.

Here’s congratulating Yash Raj Films, Aditya Chopra, Aamir Khan and the entire cast and crew for the roaring success of Dhoom 3! We hope they have a great celebration and we can’t wait to see all the photos after the event is over, of course. We told you exclusively months ago that Shahid Kapoor may have to shave his hair off for Vishal Bhardwaj‘s Hamlet remake, titled Haider. Since then, there has been much speculation about what look he will don, as the actor had even told us that they had not finalised an avatar yet (though the bald look was shortlisted). Later, it was confirmed that he is indeed going bald, and now… we have a date! Yes, folks, make sure you have your fill of him and his glorious hair, because that stuff is getting shaved off on January 27th – Monday!

“I am nervous about this. It was a tough decision to take.”

We are told that Shahid has been extremely nervous about losing his hair, and some are even referring to it as the “toughest decision” of his life, although he had said that he would be willing to lose it for a role as prestigious as this one.

Now, the actor – who is known for caring a great deal about his hair – has been discussing the minute details about this process with the people around him. He had known in advance that he would be shaving his hair off; however, they had to wait to do that until portions of the film (which required him to have a full head of hair) were shot. It seems like those scenes have been completed, because on Monday, he will undergo this drastic change.

This week’s hot blogs

Not keeping up-to-date on your Bollywood gossip this week? Luckily for you, we’ve got it all condensed here for you to skim through. Quick, quick – make sure you catch up so you’re not left out of the loop.

For some reason, relationships have really been under the spotlight this week! The big story, of course, is Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, who split up over various differences. The good news is, they’ve made up (or, at least, they’re putting up a really good show in public) because eyewitnesses claim Ranbir dropped her home post the Filmfare awards rehearsals and even cheered her on while she was recording her act.

Meanwhile, Tanishaa Mukerji and Armaan Kohli are still going strong, and are even getting offers to star in reality shows together (eeps!). Karan Johar also revealed the name of the first woman he fell in love with, although it clearly didn’t work out since she ended up marrying someone else. Some people did get married this week, though: Sameera Reddy tied the knot, Arijit Singh had a secret wedding, and Raghav Sachar got married as well to producer Kumar Mangat‘s daughter.

Then, we also heard the good news that Sachiin Joshi and Urvashi Sharma have been blessed with a baby girl, who they have named Samaira (that’s Karisma Kapoor‘s daughter’s name as well).

Our stars have also been doing good deeds this week. Both Amy Jackson and Arjun Rampal have been spreading awareness about the plight of animals, while Anshuman Jha went ahead and adopted one.

Promotions have been in full swing too! Varun Dhawan launched the trailer of his upcoming film, Main Tera Hero, and even did a fun shoot for Colors where he was dressed up as a vegetable vendor. His Student of the Year co-star, Sidharth Malhotra, was also spotted promoting his film Hasee Toh Phasee alongside leading lady Parineeti Chopra. They’ll even be on Comedy Nights With Kapil soon! As for the third piece of the Student of the Year trifecta – Alia Bhatt announced that she has sung a part of Sooha Saaha from her upcoming film, Highway. These students are certainly going places!

All eyes are now on Jai Ho to see how it fares in its opening weekend. We didn’t care for it, but it’ll probably make money anyway. Speaking of, did you know the film’s lead actress, Daisy Shah, got into acting just so she could earn some pocket money?!

On a sadder note, Shah Rukh Khan was injured while shooting for Happy New Year, and has now been advised three weeks bed rest. Oh, and Shahid Kapoor will be shaving off his gorgeous hair. Plus, there are those who aren’t too happy these days: Ranveer Singh is sulking about Lootera being overlooked at award functions this year, and Hrithik Roshan got angry at a TV network recently and sent their boss a nasty SMS!

Still, there’s much to celebrate. The Filmfare awards were held on Friday night to award those who were successful in Bollywood in 2013. Aditya Chopra is even throwing a success bash – a first for YRF! – on Sunday night to celebrate Dhoom: 3. And India had a winner at the Sundance Institute; congratulations Neeraj Ghaywan!

It was a busy weekend for our Bollywood celebrities. Some promoted their film on television shows or at events. Others watched a play, played cricket or attended a charity event. Here’s what they were up to on the weekend:

Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor recorded for their appearance on India’s Got Talent. The three had a blast and even shook a leg for the audience. They seem to have amazing chemistry and we’re waiting to check out Gunday.

The Celebrity Cricket League matches were flagged off on Saturday. The first teams to compete were Mumbai Heroes and Veer Marathis. Sohail Khan is one of the owners of the Mumbai Heroes team and Riteish Deshmukh is one of the owners of the Veer Marathis team. Of course, Salman Khan was on the pitch to support Sohail’s team and promote Jai Ho. Kind of a two balls with one bat situation. ;)

And since we’re talking about cricket, cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar took in Raell Padamsee‘s version of Grease. Of course, when you have Sachin in the house, you have to invite him to say a few words and he happily obliged.

Uh oh – it looks like Deepika Padukone is in a bit of a fix these days! While she is currently being awarded for her performances in 2013, Industrywalla tells us that the actress in a dilemma about two of her upcoming films, since she is having a date clash.

Industrywalla says: The casting for Sooraj Barjatya‘s film with Salman Khan had been a big question for some time previously, but over time it became increasingly clear that the Rajshri team was keen on roping Deepika Padukone in. Sadly, DPad has reached a situation where she is not sure whether she will do the film. The dates that Rajshri wants are clashing with the dates that she was allocating for Imtiaz Ali‘s tentatively titled Window Seat opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Now the big question is which of these films Deepika will eventually pick!

Deepika Padukone

I am told that the actress is leaning towards Imtiaz’s Window Seat, and she may pick that film if it comes down to choosing between the two. After Love Aaj Kal, Deepika has been wanting to work with Imtiaz Ali again, and she is hesitant about giving up this opportunity now that she has it.

On the flip side, she has not worked with Sooraj Barjatya (and his film is supposed to be a big one) so no one would blame her if she decided to do that film instead. As of now, though, she is more inclined to go with Window Seat. However, you never know… perhaps all parties involved can work out something so that the schedules don’t clash and Deepika is able to star in both these flicks.

Priyanka Chopra

At one point, Priyanka Chopra used to be dating Harman Baweja. However, the two eventually ended up splitting up and went their different ways. PC then dated Shahid Kapoor for a bit, while Harman was dating Shilpa Shetty‘s sister, Shamita Shetty. Neither relationship worked out, but at this point, enough time has passed that PC and Harman can be friends once again.

Now, with time, the two have been able to get over their past relationship and reconnect. At the same time, Harman was all praise for the work Priyanka has been doing as of late.

Always nice to see ex-lovers get along, isn’t it? Priyanka even recently tweeted the trailer of Harman’s Dishkiyaoon, and asked her Twitter followers to “show some love”:

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif just can’t stay out of the news. And when it’s a Bollywood couple, their personal equation is going to affect their professional work. We had wondered how their recent break-up would affect their film. Even though we hear they have patched up, according to DNA, they have pushed back their shooting dates for Jagga Jasoos. Well, we’ll have to wait some more and only then decide if it was worth the wait.

If Mumbai Mirror is to be believed, Salman Khan‘s newest heroine, Daisy Shah has let the starry airs go to her head. Although many are aware that she was a dancer in choreographer Ganesh Acharya‘s troop, not many would know that she doesn’t even acknowledge her teacher anymore. To make it worse, Ganesh Acharya hasn’t even worked with Salman Khan in the recent past. While it’s great that she’s a part of Jai Ho, it seems a bit unfair to treat Ganesh Acharya this way.

Someone who is taking Salman for a ride is Parineeti Chopra. Sadly, only because the two are ambassadors for Suzuki’s new range of bikes. They looked like they were having fun at an event yesterday.

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

Just a little while ago, we had wondered about the fate of Jagga Jasoos, since Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif had temporarily broken up over some issues. However, based on eyewitness accounts, they are either a) back together after having sorted out all their issues; or b) really good at masking things in public. In any case, according to recent reports, their film has still taken a back seat.

According to the paper, the release of Jagga Jasoos has been pushed back to May 2015, since their shooting schedule for this month were cancelled. Now, Ranbir and Katrina are expected to get together to shoot only in May and June of this year. Remember, Katrina has to give dates for Bang Bang, the film that has been much delayed due to Hrithik Roshan‘s health issues. Post that, she also has Fitoor to do, which she must have already scheduled dates for. So it’s a tricky situation all around, and it does not help that Ranbir too has films to schedule dates for.

DNA feels that the film being delayed is a clear indication that things may not be well between them. As per their report, neither is keen to shoot right now even though they were supposed to be very excited since it means they would “spend a lot of time in each other’s company.” However, Katrina’s PR reps told the paper that the Jagga Jasoos date has been pushed back because Bombay Velvet is being shifted as well: “May 10 to June 10 Katrina and Ranbir’s dates are set aside for Jagga Jasoos. Post that, they will shoot for it again in July-August. JJ was pushed to next year because PK is releasing in December so Bombay Velvet’s date will move.”

Salman Khan

At an event recently, Salman Khan claimed that he has “perhaps failed” in “bringing in the people” to watch his most recent film, Jai Ho. The actor believes that the team tried to do something different, but thinks that maybe the audience wanted to purely enjoy – the way they could with a Bodyguard or Dabangg - instead of watch Jai Ho, which he referred to as a serious film. The actor even said that they have been getting good reactions from the theatres but the collection figures are not matching up. What are the collections? This is the data, as per Eros International, the co-producers of this film:

India: 78.90 crores gross; 60.68 crores nett
Overseas: 22.36 crores ($3.55 million)
Friday domestic: 17.75 crores
Saturday domestic: 16.68 crores
Sunday domestic: 26.25 crores

The producers insist that the collections are “significant” and have even said that it is an “outstanding opening” and Salman’s “highest where he didn’t have the advantage of a long weekend.” Meanwhile, Salman believes that if Jai Ho hasn’t done well, no one is to be blamed but him because he may have not given people reason to go and watch it.

Take a look at the opening weekend figures for his other films, as per Bollywood Hungama:

Bodyguard (2011) – 88.75 crores
Ek Tha Tiger (2012) – 100.16 crores
Dabangg 2 (2012) – 65.00 crores

All of these are higher than Jai Ho‘s collections, but you have to keep in mind that they released during holidays.

Neeraj Ghaywan

Remember we told you that Neeraj Ghaywan was honoured at the Sundance Institute for his screenplay, Fly Away Solo? Well, now the news is pouring in that this film will be produced by Anurag Kashyap‘s Phantom Films and Guneet Monga, and they’re in talks with Rajkumar Rao (previously Rajkumar Yadav) and Richa Chadda to play the lead roles.

We had a quick chat with Neeraj today, and he told us that more than just the feeling of getting an award, his win at Sundance is great because it helps in getting his film actually made. Sundance put him through a lot of pitch meetings, which resulted in him meeting producers he “couldn’t imagine meeting” otherwise. He said he’s been trying to raise money for this film for about a year now, but thanks to his Sundance win (and the subsequent meetings), he’s finally about to close the deal.

The biggest perk of the award, though, is the mentorship he’ll get from the institute – plus, the accreditation from Sundance will help him going forward in respects to different markets and festivals.

As for Rajkumar and Richa, they’re still in talks, but Neeraj does believe they’d be perfect for the roles. He called them great actors, and says he already shares an equation with them because he worked with the two for Gangs of Wasseypur (he was the assistant director on that film). He also has a personal relationship with Anurag Kashyap, who he met while they wrote for the blog Passion For Cinema, which shut down some time ago. In fact, Anurag is the one who convinced Neeraj to get into films and move over from the corporate side, so Neeraj claims that, “Anurag is responsible for turning my life upside down!”

Here’s congratulating Neeraj once again for his win, and we’re looking forward to seeing Fly Away Solo get made into a film. We know he’s excited, although he can’t describe it: “There’s no way to explain the feeling of seeing your film go from paper to floors.” Especially one that he’s been living with for two to three years!
